Cascades Frog

Identification/Variations: Cascades Frogs are a light tan to dark brown with varying amounts of black blotching. Below they are white with lightly colored yellow legs. Some individuals have small bumps on the skin and others have quite smooth skin. There are no recognized regional variations of this frog.

Range/Habitat: In the Pacific Northwest these frogs live in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and Washington. The only exception is an isolated population living high in the Olympic Mountains. They also range south into northern California's Klamath Mountains. These frogs inhabitat mountain meadows, streams, and lakes.  These frogs are typically found above 3,000' in elevation.

Notes: These frogs are active as soon as the snow melts and can be found throughout the summer months. When spooked they take to the water and try to hide under water or a nearby streambank.
