Plethodon dunni

Dunn’s Salamander

Identification/Variations: The Dunn's salamander is an olive green color above with some bleeding of this color onto its sides. This color tends to fade to black so to speak as this salamander ages, but Dunn's of all ages have a black tip on their tails.

Range/Habitat: Dunn's Salamanders are found in mossy areas around cold shaded creeks and streams. While adults are not usually at the water's edge, they can be found not far from the water under mossy rocks and logs up on the banks. They are found throughout western Oregon and range into the coast range of southwestern Washington.

Notes: These salamanders range into the south into northwest California in Del Norte County. The populations there and in southwestern Oregon are more of a olive brown than the populations in northern Oregon and southwest Washington.
