Clemmys marmorata

Western Pond Turtle

Identification/Variations: A rather plain-looking turtle, Western Pond Turtles are a drab gray/brown. In southern California populations have more pronounced yellow markings on the neck and are referred to as Southwestern Pond Turtles, while in our area we have Northwestern Pond Turtles.

Range/Habitat: These turtles are found in western Oregon and Washington. They have suffered with the introduction of Bullfrogs in the Puget Sound and Willamette Valley.

Notes: While this turtle is becoming more scarce in the valleys and lowlands, it still is found in  relatively healthy numbers in southwestern Oregon and northwestern California.
