Sharp-Tailed Snake

Identification/Variations: harp-Tailed Snakes are identified by their small size and plain color of either a rust red or brown. Even adults may be less than 10 inches in length and these snakes are sometimes confused with worms. Below they have alternating black and white bands.

Range/Habitat: This snakes seems to prefer open oak areas with downed wood or rock rubble. They are found in southwest Oregon and have a limited range in central Washington.

Notes: This snakes feed exclusively on slugs. They prefer cooler temperatures and are usually only found in the early spring and fall when the ground is moist. They retreat underground for the summer and winter
