Plateau Striped Whiptail

Identification/Variations: This is a medium to large lizard that has prominent striping. Note that juveniles possess blue tails that fade to a gray brown as the lizards reach maturity.

Range/Habitat: This lizard is native to the southwest, but has one thriving population in central Oregon. It can be found there easily among open and bushy areas with loose, sandy soil.

Notes: This lizard only occurs at Cove Palisades State Park by Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon. It is believed one lizard was introduced there during the 1960s and it has populated the area by parthenogenesis.
