Rana clamitans

Green Frog

Identification/Variations: An introduced frog that is native to the swamps of the eastern United States. Similar in color to the Bullfrog, but is smaller and is a more solid brown color.

Range/Habitat: Found in isolated populations in northwest Washington and a few in other populations occur in southwest British Columbia and Vancouver Island. These frogs enjoy swampy shallow water, and are typically not too skittish.

Notes: The pictures of Green Frogs I have are all from Virginia. In the future I will endeavor to photograph some of the local populations that have become established in the Pacific Northwest. Unlike their cousin the Bullfrog, Green Frogs appear to not have had the devastating impact of an introduced species thus far.
