Rhyacotriton kezeri
Columbia Torrent Salamander
Rhyacotriton kezeri
Columbia Torrent Salamander
Identification/Variations: Similar to the other 3 species of torrent salamander, the Columbia Torrent Salamander can be identified by an orange hue on its sides and belly. Also they tend to be darker above and less tan in color than other species of torrents.
Range/Habitat: Found in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Most common along permanent creek trickles and seeps.
Notes: Despite their name, Columbia Torrent Salamanders are found in the Columbia River or in torrents. They prefer the headwaters that find their way into the Columbia, but will leave the streambank shore if the creeks become to rapid.
