Plethodon larseni
Larch Mountain Salamander
Plethodon larseni
Larch Mountain Salamander
Identification/Variations: Larch Mountain Salamanders are red or orange above and pink below. They are close cousins of the Dunn's Salamander and may be encountered in the same habitat.
Range/Habitat: This salamander is found only in talus and rock rubble in moist areas. They are most common along the Columbia River, but range north into south-central Washington.
Notes: While these salamanders have a more extended range in Washington, I have only encountered them in Oregon as the south side of the Columbia River Gorge is cooler, wetter, and more salamander-friendly.
