Rana pipiens

Northern Leopard Frog

Identification/Variations: Northern Leopard Frogs are brown or green colored with large dark spots that have a light-colored outline. These spots somewhat resemble leopard spots, hence the name.

Range/Habitat: Northern Leopard Frogs are found throughout most of the northern United States, but has become rare in the Pacific Northwest. They are found around shallow ponds or slow-moving sloughs with marshy borders.

Notes: In the Pacific Northwest these frogs can still be found continuously in eastern Idaho. However, in the three pacific states, only a couple of breeding populations of this frog remain.
