Identification/Variations: Similar to the other species of torrent salamanders in that it is a tan or brown with an orange underside. Southern Torrent Salamanders tend to have less pronounced black spotting, but have significant amounts of white spots.
Range/Habitat: Southern Torrent Salamanders are found under small rocks and talus along small streams and creeks in the Oregon coast range. They are only found in forested and shady areas and are not found in open areas where the sun heats the shore and water.
Notes: Of the 4 species of torrent salamander the Southern Torrent Salamander has the largest range; being found in northern California and along most of the Oregon coast.
