Batrachoseps wrightorum

Oregon Slender Salamander

Identification/Variations: Like all slender salamanders the Oregon Slender Salamander is more elongated than other salamanders. It is a copper/rust red above with black and white markings below.

Range/Habitat: This salamander is found only in the central and northern Cascade Mountains of Oregon. It is most often find in the spring under woody debris.

Notes: This is the only slender salamander that does not live in California. This is an old growth forest salamander and logging has had an adverse effect on these salamanders. This salamander is often classified as Batrachoseps wrighti but wrightorum appears to be a more appropriate name (at least for the present).
